Q. I have a NAS spec Defender, will your LED lights fit?A. Our River Runners are designed to European Union standards, and are not suited as a replacement for the rear NAS Defenders. If you have the standard 70mm diameter LEP style lights on the front our lights will fit. Q. What's involved in converting to your LED's?A. Not a lot. Basically, you need to:
Q. Why do I need to change my flasher unit?A. Your existing flasher, whether electro-mechanical or solid state, is expecting to find a certain resistance value, generated by the old incandescent bulbs, to generate the heat which breaks the contact (that's the click, click sound). Now imagine the flashers' surprise when you install your new River Runners and there's not enough resistance to heat the flasher up. The total amount of resistance generated by our River Runners, is less than that of one incandescent flasher bulb. Q. How long do they take to install?A. On Series 1,2, 2a and 3 approximately 20-30mins. On the Defender the biggest problem is getting to the front light connection block, if your Defender is neatly tied up as it was when it left Lode Lane, then you can add 30-60 minutes depending on how fast you work. Q. What's the advantage of using LEDs, my old lights work fine?A. There are numerous advantages in using our River Runners probably top of the list is safety. Now with factory standard Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2a and even 3s speed is not normally an issue, unless you are going over a cliff, that said, It is a fact that LED's react faster than incandescent bulbs. This translates into more warning for the driver behind that, if you are driving an early Series vehicle, you have just thrown out the anchor and should be stopping in the not too distant future. If, on the other hand, you are driving a Defender at 60MPH the driver behind will have an additional vehicle length in which to stop. (It's the sudden stop at the end that causes all the damage.) The other safety factor is light out put, when new, your lights meet a certain safety standard but as they age they loose their ability to perform (much like people really). This is caused by a few of factors: mould and dirt build up on the inside of the lens and corrosion inside in the contacts effectively reducing the voltage to the light, this in turn reduces the brightness of the light. Our River Runners have a two stage protection: first the LED's are embedded in epoxy so that they are waterproof, second the lens and wire exits are sealed providing another layer of protection. Even if you managed to crack a lens allowing water in the LED will still work. Oh and by the way, glad to hear your old lights are OK. Q. How long will these new LEDs last?A. The LEDs are designed for approximately 100,000 hours, That's just over 11 years, if you leave them on 24/7/365. Now that may be possible with side lights but it could prove a little tricky with the stop and turn signal. (Not mention confusing the poor driver behind.) So basically, they are 'fit and Forget'. Q. I have installed your River Runners but I a 'ghosting' on the opposite side i.e. if I indicate left I get a ghosting on the right and vis-versa.A. Check your grounds (Black wires) we recommend that you cut your existing grounds and install a new connection (in the same area). Also check the condition of the existing ground wire as it may well have started to corrode. If so, we suggest that you cut out the corroded portion and connect in a new wire of the same gauge.
